When you boil it down, our purpose at The Planted Word is about two things: Loving God, and loving each other. These are the two commandments that Jesus said sum up all of the rest of the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 22:35-40). When we love God and love each other, we abide in God’s love (John 15:10), and that’s a good place to be!
Because we love God, we have a deep respect and reverence for God’s word, the Bible. We believe that it is the most important book there is, and it contains the most important message the world has ever heard. We believe that it was not written by man’s invention, but by God, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:19-21). We want to hear all that God has to say, so we teach through the whole Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.
Because God loved us, we love Him, and we love each other. God has given us the ability through His Spirit to love each other with crazy, God-sized love. At The Planted Word , we believe that crazy love is the best spiritual gift we can have here on this earth (1 Corinthians 13), it is “the more excellent way” as Paul the apostle put it. We want to exercise that gift of love as often as we can. For this reason, we value community in a big way. We believe that Christians were not meant to be isolated or alone, but to live and love in community.
The Planted Word is born out of the Calvary Chapel movement. Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational movement and affiliation of independent churches focused on simply teaching the Bible and worshipping God together, or “worship and the Word” as we like to call it. For more information on Calvary Chapel visit www.calvarychapel.com. We at The Planted Word identify closely and are affiliated with the Calvary Chapel movement.
